Embark on a thrilling underwater exploration in the pristine waters of Drake Bay.
Our diving tour offers an unforgettable experience for both certified and non-certified divers. Departing at 7:30 AM, we journey by boat to Cano Island Biological Reserve, located approximately one hour offshore from Drake Bay. Upon arrival, prepare to dive into a world of vibrant marine life. Enjoy two immersive dives separated by a relaxing break on the island, with lunch included before the return trip.
Isla del Caño is widely recognized as one of the top ten dive destinations in the world. Located 19 kilometers off the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica’s South Pacific, this protected Biological Reserve sits at the intersection of warm ocean currents that bring extraordinary concentrations of marine life year-round. Underwater visibility regularly reaches 20–30 meters, giving divers a crystal-clear window into one of the most biodiverse marine ecosystems in the Eastern Pacific.
What you’ll see underwater:
The marine biodiversity around Cano Island is exceptional. On a typical dive from Drake Bay, you can expect to encounter white-tip reef sharks resting on sandy bottoms between coral formations, giant manta rays gliding through open water, sea turtles (both hawksbill and green), spotted eagle rays, moray eels in reef crevices, large schools of jack and barracuda, colorful parrotfish, angelfish and pufferfish, and octopus tucked into coral heads. The reserve protects over 20 species of coral and is one of the few places in Costa Rica where divers consistently encounter large pelagic species including whale sharks during migration season.
Between June and October, humpback whales arrive in Drake Bay to give birth and nurse their calves. Whale sightings from the boat during the crossing are common during these months, making the journey to the island as memorable as the dives themselves.
The dive experience:
We conduct two dives during the day, each approximately 45–55 minutes long. Our main dive sites include El Bajo, a seamount famous for shark aggregations, as well as Paraíso and Las Calaveras, each offering a different underwater landscape from dramatic drop-offs to sweeping coral gardens. Our PADI-certified instructors lead every group and provide thorough briefings before each dive. For non-certified divers, we offer a Discover Scuba Diving experience at comfortable, shallow depths with your instructor by your side throughout — no prior experience required, just a love of the ocean.
What’s included:
Pricing: $155
The tour departs at 7:30 AM and returns to Drake Bay around 3:30–4:00 PM. Certified divers should bring their PADI or equivalent certification card. Non-certified divers are completely welcome — your instructor will guide you safely every step of the way. If you are prone to seasickness, we recommend taking medication before departure as the boat crossing can be lively depending on ocean conditions.
